Online Virus Scanners and Security Tests

Following is a list of links that provide information and/or tools to help you identify and manage domain names.

The links on this page are to online anti-virus scanners and security test sites. This list is in alphabetical order and no particular recommendations are impled as to which ones to use, although we have used most of them at one time or another and found them useful.

It's important to note that online virus scanners have the advantage that they have not been exposed to virus attack and therefore should work while a virus is active on the PC. However they should NOT be regarded as a replacement for 'installed' anti-virus packages because they do NOT provide 'guard' facilities

avast! Online Scanner
Each time you may check only one file with size not exceeding 512kB.

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
BitDefender Scan Online is a fully functional antivirus product, with a web-based interface and featuring all required elements for remotely antivirus scanning and cleaning: it scans system's memory, all files, folders and drives' boot sector, providing the user with the option to automatically clean the infected files.

CA eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
Requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or above and requires you doiwnload an ActiveX control.

F-Secure Online Virus Scanner
F-Secure Online Virus Scanner is a free service. Use it to find out if your computer is infected with a virus and disinfect your computer if needed. The size of the download package is less than 4 megabytes.

Freedom Online Virus Check
Allows you to scan your hard drives, diskettes, CD-ROMs, network drives, directories, and specific files for any hidden viruses, Trojans or worms.

Kaspersky Lab Free Online Virus Scanner
Only one file of up to 1 MB can be checked at any one time. If the file is too large, a window with an error message will be displayed.

McAfee FreeScan
Helps you detect thousands of viruses on your computer. Based on the award-winning McAfee VirusScan engine, FreeScan searches for viruses, including the latest known "in the wild" viruses, and displays a detailed list of any infected files. Should viruses be found, FreeScan provides links to more information about the viruses and what you can do to clean your system.

Security Scan - Sygate Online Services
Performs a variety of security scans.

Tests your computer's exposure to online security threats and learn how to make your computer more secure.

Test My Firewall
Test My Firewall looks for services running on running on your system using ports 1-1500; they also perform a Trojan scan by looking for open ports known to be used by Trojans. Once the firewall test has completed, your computer will then be scanned for spyware.
